What does this service do for me?
Print@Kodak provides an alternative solution to printing your digital images at home through a simple and automatic process. The Print@Kodak internet print service is a new and easy way for you to send your digital photos via the internet for printing on real photographic paper. Your printed photos will be delivered to you through courier or post.
What software would I need to access this Service?
There are 3 options to access the service. You can either use the Print@Kodak software, Kodak's EasyShare software, or if you are using Windows XP, the Order Prints Online button in the 'My Pictures' Folder. Details and download instructions for each option are included on this Web site. Simply go to "Download Print@Kodak Software", review and select the best option for you.
Once you have accepted the terms and conditions of this service, downloaded and installed the software, there will be instructions that would guide you through the easy-to-use Print@Kodak internet print service. Please bear in mind that your computer should be configured to access the Internet via Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape. Although Print@Kodak does not explicitly use those programs, it will copy and use the settings made in these browsers for internet access.
Is every digital image suited for the Print@Kodak Print Service?
To get high-quality prints in variety of sizes, the Gallery recommends the following:
a) File format - The Print@Kodak print service works with the popular file formats JPEG, TIFF and FLASHPIX. We advise against the use of GIF files as these files are limited to 256 colours - which may be sufficient on screen, but lacking quality in a photo.
b) Digital Image Resolution - Digital image resolution is the size of your image, measured in pixels ("picture elements"). A high-resolution image (such as 1600 x 1200 pixels) will result in a better printed photo than a low resolution image (such as 320 x 240 pixels), all other things being equal. A digital picture with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels can be printed to a size of 10 x 15 cm; with an 800 x 600 pixel image you would of course receive a better photo print. Some photo labs offer print sizes larger than 10 x 15cm, for which a higher resolution is strongly advised, e.g. 1024 x 768 pixels or higher. If the resolution is too low for the size of the print chosen, the photograph will look fuzzy and indistinct. The Print@Kodak software will highlight such cases where resolution is insufficient. If you choose to proceed in spite of the warnings, Print@Kodak assumes you have accepted that the quality of the print could be lower. We recommend that you always use the high resolution setting on your camera to ensure the best prints.
How can I upload images from my Digital Camera?
Transfer the digital photos from your camera to your PC with the software provided for your digital camera. Make sure the images are saved in one of the supported file formats (see above).
What should I do to prepare images?
Some models of digital cameras allow for a choice of quality levels. This is an option that is sometimes labelled as Low, Medium or High Quality. This refers to the level of compression of the picture. The higher the quality, the better the prints will be. As there are many variables that would affect the quality of prints, we recommend that you do not compress too much. A point to note is that once you have compressed the digital image, you will not be able to regain the original image quality. Also, the compression factor is independent of the resolution of your picture. When you compress, you don't reduce resolution but simply intentionally deteriorate quality of the picture.
Can I print scanned images?
A scanner is an excellent source of digital images. The only thing you should keep in mind is to scan with enough resolution to match existing colour printing technology. A good habit is to try to get a file with a resolution between 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768. This will give you a trade-off between quality, disk space and modem transmission time. We recommend JPEG as the file format to use.
What print size options do I have?
The Print@Kodak system lets you select the number of prints and the size you want. The print sizes available for selection would depend on what is offered by the photo lab you have chosen.
How do I know that I will receive quality prints?
When selecting the photos and sizes for printing, the Print@Kodak software will highlight cases where the photo's resolution is too low for the size of the print chosen. Although you may choose to ignore the warnings and still send the image to the photo lab, you will be obligated to pay for the order regardless of the quality of the print.
Can I send prints to my relatives far away?
Yes, you can have the prints mailed either to your address or to a specified delivery address within India.
